Spanish and Portuguese influences for many centuries have left their mark and the Spanish and Portuguese languages are still in evidence. Classical cultural opportunities such as orchestral music, opera and ballet are live in Orlando (Orlando has two professional ballet companies). There are also many cultural events which acknowledge the rich ethnic background of the people of Orlando. The heritage of wildlife and nature is also very evident in Orlando and it is home to some beautiful parks, lakes and bird and animal sanctuaries.

Visit the Albin Polasek Sculpture Garden and Museum in Winter Park. The Museum is in the house that used to be Albin Polasek’s home. Around it are beautiful gardens filled with sculptures. A visit here makes a lovely peaceful break to the hectic schedule of your holiday.

The Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra puts on over 100 performances every season, apart from accompanying the Orlando Opera Company. A very popular Orchestra, the Orlando Phil receives great support from the local community. The Orchestra performs in several venues including the Centroplex and Bob Carr Performing Arts Centre.

Orlando Opera Company has world class presentations of famous operas and these are usually accompanied by the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra. Over the years, many world famous opera stars have come to Orlando – Jesseye Norman, Placido Domingo, etc and many of the famous operas are performed each season. When sung in Italian or other foreign language, the English translations are provides by a projection above the stage. Most of the operas are performed between October and April.
